"Be the tree God Made you to be"

I bought this book for my son's sixth birthday, uncertain of its message, but hopeful that it had something to do with growing up, and finding God's purpose for your life. It's all in the title-a young acorn, afraid to leave its "mother" tree, goes on a series of adventures until it finally matures enough to become a constant and reliable companion for a young girl, who is also searching for her purpose.

Throughout the book, this tree compares himself to those around him-the orange trees, who grow faster and bear fruit. The flowering plants, whose yield is plentiful and more immediately gratifying. He is frustrated by how slowly he grows, by how unremarkable he seems to be, not realizing that it is he who will become the biggest, the strongest, and the greatest of them all.

This message was exactly what I wanted to get across to my son. It is so easy for children to get caught up in comparing their accomplishments to others, especially if they mature much more slowly than their peers, or in my case, their siblings. I have children on both ends, and this book can speak to both of them.

I was able to read this to a 3 and 6 year old, but it was a bit too long for my three year old, who had run off to grab another book 3/4 of the way through.

Also, if you become emotional when you read "love you forever", this book will probably make you cry. I'm not overly emotional, but I couldn't help myself in the end, as I saw the message come full circle.

The analogy isn't completely logical, but it works for a child, and I have been able to use it for both of my children throughout the week as their various frustrations come up.

4 stars for the length, but with a little editing, it could easily be a five star book (I'm not sure the story line with the orange grove is necessary).

You'll Cry

I usually find Christian Children's books to be hokey, unoriginal, and poor quality. This book, while a bit hokey at points, was original and great quality. The pictures are lovely. The story is a bit long for most younger (the under 3 crowd) children to sit through. My acorn obsessed two year old loves the pictures, though. I liked the story. It did get a bit muddled in the end with what Big Girl was doing or deciding. But overall, it is a great story. As a parent, this book might bring a tear or two to your eye as you read to your child. The message? Be the person God has created you to be.

Inside the tiny acorn, is a great oak just waiting to grow. The little acorn didn't realize his potential, but his mother oak did. She reassured him that he can be a great oak tree of his own one day, and he did. He grew taller than the orange tree and the roses in the garden. He grew so large and strong, that one day his huge branches were able to hold a swing for a little girl. He watched her grow and become older until one day she no longer played on the swing. She sulked below its branches, needing a lesson about her own potential. Max Lucado brings the story of great potential into the hands of children. Beautiful illustrations and a powerfully written story really work to catch a child's imagination. A great read for children 5 and older!

The main tools utilised are a posteriori error estimators and indicators which are able to give global and local information on the error of the numerical solution, using only the computed numerical solution and known data of the problem. Presenting the most frequently used error estimators which have been developed by various scientists in the last two decades, this book demonstrates that they are all based on the same basic principles. These principles are then used to develop an abstract framework which is able to handle general nonlinear problems. The abstract results are applied to various classes of nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations from, for example, fluid and continuum mechanics, to yield reliable and easily computable error estimators. The 1 star review posted above does not convey a completely accurate or fair synopsis of the book "HTML5 for iOS and Android: A Beginner's Guide" ...emphasis on BEGINNERS!!!

The information contained in this book made it easy to create my first Android app & coming from little or no experience in any type of web design or software development, the 1 star rating is highly inaccurate in describing its worth to a beginner. The author clearly explains the new features of HTML 5 & its forthcoming features, along with JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets & much more. The chapters dealing with the iOS & Android SDK (Software Development Kits) & the exact steps for creating Applications, ready for their respective markets, were clear, concise & not once was I left wondering "What next...?" If this weren't enough, the author also provides an http address from which to download a zip file with each example covered in the book.

In conclusion, this book is an invaluable resource for aspiring web designers or software developers & is easily deserving of a 5 star rating.

Awesome resource

I'm surprised at the previous reviewer's one star; this book is packed with useful information. As a developer who was already familiar with HTML, CSS, JS and PHP, I still gained a lot of knowledge just from skimming the chapters and looking up various terms from the index. I especially like the 'Ask the Expert' sidebars (as most of the questions were those which I probably would've asked myself) and the illustrative figures showing the results that particular code would produce in myriad browsers / operating systems.

Even though the title says that this books is "...for iOS and Android", I recently recommended this to a friend who wanted to dive into HTML5 in general. Most of the other books that I've checked out on the subject seem to be far too basic and bare-bones to consider seriously. This one really gets into the gritty details of not only how the code and scripts should be written, but also how they are parsed, how well they are supported and what you can expect when deployed.

Well written, informative and highly recommended.

Outstanding tutorial; Very helpful in learning the technologies mentioned.

For someone like me who has struggled to really grasp how to hand-code in the various technologies that are used in web design/development (HTML, Javascript, PHP, MySQL), this book has really helped guide the way.

There are many books out there that go very much in depth into each of these individual topics. This is great for experienced readers, but for someone like me who is really trying to understand how it all works together, those other books were not as easy to grasp. What sets this book apart is how it presents each of the topics in a related, practical fashion. i.e. You get to see what you are learning applied in a real world scenario.

Before getting this book, I struggled to understand how HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc. worked together to create a finished product. The knowledge was out there; But "How to make it all work together" took a while to piece together. Google is a great tool, but if you do not know what you're looking for, you end up wasting a lot of time.

So the bottom line really is: If you are looking to learn these technologies and want to save yourself a lot of wasted hours searching online learning the basics, get this book. It has helped me immensely.

A big thank you to the author for presenting the material in an easy to understand fashion. It would be nice if more books were written like this one was.

Loved the novel and cannot wait for the third!!

I loved Marc Edelheit's second novel, I cannot wait for the third installment. The plot kept me wholly engaged and in suspense in relation to the twists that developed through to the excellent world building. The nature of the story was told from someone who knows their Roman History. My only complaint is that the book wasn't longer as I became completely engrossed in the story. Hoping that the next novel is not long in coming.

The second novel in the series is as good as the first. As Stiger's world unfolds it becomes more intriguing. The set piece battle scenes are written really well. I cannot wait for book 3.

If you like Stories about the Roman legions mixed with a bit of fantasy, you will love these books.

Well Worth Waiting For

I have been impatiently waiting for this book for some time as I loved the first one. My only complaint is that this one ended too soon and leaves me impatiently waiting once again for the next volume. This book does not disappoint and is exciting to read. We have plenty of Roman Legion style military action, intrigue and a bit more of the fantasy storyline than the first volume......but it doesn't come anywhere near overwhelming the rest of the story.

I highly recommend this book. Legions, dwarfs, elves and a wizard or two.... what more could you want? The Tiger is a big winner!!!
